Cheers to Three!
This week, my dearest Stuart and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary.
I know, I know. It's very exciting stuff.
This anniversary was another special reminder of why I love my husband so dearly.
As usual, our celebrations revolve around food.
We started the day with some celebratory sourdough pancakes with fried plantains and freshly whipped cream. I then proceeded to slip into a carb and honey coma for the following two hours. I should have cooked some bacon. Fat balances out sugar, don't ya know?
And nothing says Happy Anniversary Baby like pancakes.
As I sat at the table telling Georgia she can't just eat the whipped cream off her pancakes, it dawned on me how much life has changed in these past few years. Four years ago, my life was my own (in Christ, of course). If I wanted to get a vanilla latte every day, that's what I did. If I wanted to stay up extra late or get up extra early, that's what I did. If I wanted to wandering off through Europe for a wee while, that's what I did.
But now, as the good Lord would have it, my life is no longer my own. My life has been so closely melded with Stuarts, it's inseparable and indistinguishable. I am my loves and he is mine.
And not only that, but now we have a wee one! So I am my loves and he is mine and she is ours and we are hers (when we have more kids, this could get complicated!).
But back to our anniversary.
We didn't get dressed up and go to a fancy dinner (though, girlfriend likes to get dressed up every now and then). Instead, we ordered in take-out for the third time since we've been married. And, being us, we sat their enjoying our spring rolls calculating out how much we spend on groceries each month and what percentage of our food budget just went into this one meal.
Ya, we don't eat out very often.
A quick kitchen cleanup later and we were snuggled under blankets watching Band of Brothers.
It was laid back.
It was perfect.
It was us.
Thank you Father, for this beautiful gift of marriage! A lasting covenant between God and us that is founded on His word and truth. It truly gets better and better every year.
