All the food left in our winter root cellar.

It's not glamorous - all the food left in our winter root cellar. The cabbage leaves have long gone a bit grey and moldy. The leeks are now spotted and slightly shriveled. The onions and garlic are desperate to sprout green shoots towards the heavens instead of stay in the dormant slumber where they belong. Jars of once beautiful sauerkraut are now half-eaten and tucked into the far corners of the refrigerator.

It is, my friends, the end of the winter season.

Just because these things are true of our food storage (and they are) there is still much to consume before the new crops begin coming out of the garden. It will be months still until we see harvests that can actually sustain us in any kind of meaningful way.

Thank God my family thrives on animal products. No pictured here: the eggs, raw milk, and loads of red meat we eat on the daily.

Anyway - I hope you enjoy exploring the food left in our winter root cellar! Taking notes for next years garden already...
